I feel like I should be stumbling around groaning "Braaaaaaaaaaains." Sleeping with a newborn in the house is, to put it lightly, a challenge. As they can't just walk over and whisper what they want, they use the only method of communication available to them: the scream.
Xavier had another checkup yesterday, where they weighed and measured him again. Apparently we're doing something right, as he shot up a half a pound in a week and added a half inch to his length. He's now at 19 inches and weighs 5lbs 3oz. Chugging all those bottles must have helped!
Grandma and Grandpa finally got to meet him last weekend during a brief visit. He took to grandma right away, and make grandpa a little uncomfortable. ;) Still, it was a nice visit. Xavier had his first experience eating out at Red Robin, which he slept through and thus missed out on the milkshakes.
Xavier is one week old today. Things are going pretty well, though everyone is stressed out due to some rough sleep. Both mom and baby had checkups with the doctor today, and while I haven't heard on how Erica's went, we did hit a little speed bump with Xavier. He had a hearing test today and while his right ear passed, his left did not. We're not sure what this all means at the moment, and we have an appointment with a hearing specialist in mid July to learn more. However, as it currently stands he doesn't hear much at all, if anything, from the left. Poor little guy.
We're home! Erica and Xavier were released from the hospital today, and after quick car ride (his first!) it was time to take in the apartment. He seemed very at ease here. Ra, the cat, is quite terrified of this new, strange smelling, loud noise making thing and has yet to come very close to him. Erica is pretty exhausted, so I am keeping watch while she sleeps. Then we'll tag team and I'll catch some shuteye.
Erica is scheduled to have Xavier via c-section at 8am on May 30th! Of course, he could arrive sooner if she goes into labor, but we have the appointment set!
On Wed we had our checkup with the specialist in perinatology. The main focus of this visit was to have an in depth ultrasound to look at things like organ development, blood flow, listen to his heartbeat, and generally get as good of look as possible about how little Xavier is growing.
