On Wed we had our checkup with the specialist in perinatology. The main focus of this visit was to have an in depth ultrasound to look at things like organ development, blood flow, listen to his heartbeat, and generally get as good of look as possible about how little Xavier is growing.
It turns out that he's doing very well, but is a small boy. He's currently 5lbs 2oz, which has him at 7oz heavier then the last look 2 weeks ago. The primary concern yesterday was any blood flow resistance at the placenta, of which there isn't any. This is good news, as it means that he's getting plenty of oxygen and nutrients, but is just small.
Erica and I were all set to have the C-section right then: our bags were packed, work knew we probably wouldn't be in for the rest of the week, Xavier's grandma and grandpa had a flight down booked, etc. But, the doctor concluded that it would be best for him to stay in there a while longer and hopefully pack on another pound.
We've got another appointment with the doctor on Friday, so hopefully we'll get a good idea of when we can expect him to pop out. But hey, at least now Erica and I can go see the new Pirates movie!
